What the law says
In British Columbia, gambling is only legal if the provincial government operates it. Casinos and online play included, every form of commercial gambling in the province falls under BCLC. A private company cannot run legal gambling for BC players outside that system.
For online play, that leaves one address. BCLC operates PlayNow.com, which is the one legal site for online gambling in British Columbia.
All gambling in British Columbia has come under the Independent Gambling Control Office (IGCO) as regulator from April 13, 2026. That takes in the province's casinos and PlayNow.com alike. The office is just as plain about the rest of the internet. The office adds that any other online gambling website taking BC players is acting illegally within the province.
PlayNow and Game Break
PlayNow.com, BCLC's own online site, admits only players who are 19 or older. That matches the legal age for all gambling in British Columbia, casinos included.
BCLC's voluntary self-exclusion program is called Game Break, and you can pick a term of 3 years, 2 years, 1 year or 6 months. A term cannot be changed once chosen. To enrol, you go in person to any casino and bring government-issued photo ID. The agreement covers B.C. gambling facilities and PlayNow.com. It does not reach other online sites.
